Orphanage Support Program
In our mission of 'Helping Haitians help Haitians" we support the vision and labor of orphanages that provide shelter and education to those most vulnerable in Haiti - children who have lost their parents or have been abandoned due to extreme poverty. As there is no institutional structure in Haiti to take care of these children, the founders of these orphanages have dedicated their lives to providing these children with shelter, education and health care so that they can become healthy, independent citizens. We are currently supporting the following orphanages under this program:
Foyer des Filles de Dieu (The House of the Girls of God): Founded in 1987 by Madame Paula Thybulle, Foyer des Filles provides support and shelter to 65 girls who have lost their parents or can no longer be supported by their families. Without Paula's help these children would be left to themselves on the streets of Port-au-Prince, vulnerable to violence and sexual abuse. At the orphanage, the girls are welcomed into a family where the oldest looks out for the youngest and the girls receive quality education and vocational training to sustain them on their journey to adulthood and independence.
La Maison L'Arc-en-Ciel (Rainbow House): La Maison l'Arc-en-Ciel is an orphanage for 36 children affected by HIV/AIDS. These children have lost at least one of their parents to the AIDS virus and the majority of the children are HIV positive. Robert and Danielle Penette, the founders of this orphanage, are working to provide a safe and loving environment for these children, providing education and 24-hour medical care. This center is also part of a larger program providing AIDS education to urban communities and addressing the stigma of AIDS in Haiti.
Please note: We have suspended our funding of the Orphanage of 'City of God' or Foyer d'Accueil F.C.C.M. Please click here for updated information.
