Medical Programs
Basic health care is considered a luxury in Haiti, where most people cannot afford to see a doctor, much less pay for prescribed medication. To address this problem, Haitian Ministries supports:
- Notre Dame de Lourdes Neighborhood Medical Clinic: Paula Thybulle founded a clinic to provide quality health care to poor people. The clinic is opened daily and provides a professional consultation and medical treatment for less than three dollars. This clinic offers internal, pediatric, dental, and ophthalmologic care.
- Medical Missions: Teams of doctors, nurses, lab technicians and other medical professionals travel to Haiti for short periods to work hand-in-hand with Haitian caregivers at Notre Dame de Lourdes. they work both at the clinic in Port-au-Prince and in a mobile clinic that usually visits five areas of the city. The goals of these missions are: to care for the needy; to allow for a meaningful exchange between medical caregivers; and to provide material and technical support to Haitian medical institutions.
- Emergency Medical Assistance: In a country where there is only one doctor for every 10,000 people, many Haitians die needlessly because of little or no medical attention. At Norwich Mission House, we provide funds for emergency medical treatment and medication to our neighbors and students in our scholarship program.
